Ban kan:
Trunk with many curves.
Trunk with many curves - 'coiled snakes' Bonsai with a very coiled trunk.
著しく幹が捩れて（捩幹のよりネジれた状態）、蛇がとぐろを巻いた様な樹形。

Bun jin gi:
literati
Free style that was composed of "thin long trunk" and a few branch.
中国の南画に見られる様な樹形。文人達に好まれたのでこの様に呼ばれる。現在では、細幹で枝数少なく枝嵩も少ないものも、こう呼ばれる。

Cho kkan:
Upright, Formal
Strong vertical trunk, pyramidal arrangement of branches in all
directions.
根元から樹芯まで、真っ直ぐに伸びた幹に、バランス良く枝の出た樹形。

Fuki nagashi:
Windswept style
Trunk at an angle with branches and twigs growing only in one
direction - as if lashed by the wind.
一方向の強風に、曝されて成長した様な樹形。

Hoki dachi:
Broom(or besom) style
Fan shaped branches on an upright trunk.
Many lines are growing from the point.
幹の途中から、放射状に細かく分かれてどれが主幹なのか、区別のつかなくなった樹形、それがあたかも竹箒に似ている。

Ikada:
Raft style from "1 place root".
Trunk buried horizontally in ground with limbs growing as
individual trees.
The root is growing from 1 place.
立木が横に倒れて、元は枝であったものが、幹として育ち多幹樹形となったもの。
根は一ヵ所から出ています。 元の枝別れ部分など複数の箇所から発根すると、「根連なり」と呼ばれます。

Ishi tsuki or ishi duke:
Clinging to rock or rock-grown .
Miniature tree growing above or on a rock with roots clasping the
stone and reaching down into the soil.
石の窪みなどを利用して、樹を植え込んだもの。

Kabu dachi:
Clump
Multiple trunks growing from one root.
一つの根元から、複数の幹に分かれて立ち上がったもの。

Ken gai:
Cascade
Trunk and branches hang below rim of pot.
盆栽樹形のひとつで、樹の枝先が鉢縁よりも下にあるものを半懸崖、さらに枝の先端が鉢底よりも下にあるものを懸崖という。
自然の中で、断崖絶壁にしがみつくように生きる、樹の生命力のたくましさや力強さが表現できる。

根元から樹芯まで、前後左右に緩やかな曲振りを持った樹形。

Ne agari:
Bonsai with exposed roots.
根元の地中で分岐した部分が、何らかの原因で露出しているもの。

Neji kan:
Bonsai with twisted trunk.
幹が著しく捩れているもの、または捩れて成長する性質のもの。

Ne duranari / Ne tsuranari:
Raft style from roots.
Connected roots.
複数（３本以上の）の同樹種の根が癒着して一つに繋がっているもの。

San kan:
Triple trunk
Three trunks growing from one root (father, mother, son).
一つの根元から幹が三本に分かれて立ち上がったもの。

Sha kan:
Slanting or slant Trunk.
Slant style tree; the trunk leaning to one side should be counterbalanced
by strong rootage on the opposite side.
盆栽樹形の一つで､幹が斜めに立ち上がっているものをいう。
動き の大きい樹形のため、引き根（傾斜の反対方向に出ている根）など 力強い根張りを持ったものがふさわしい。

Sha ri miki or Shari kan:
Driftwood style.
幹の一部分が枯死して、樹皮が剥がれ木質部分が露出したもの。

Sou kan:
Twin trunk.
Two trunks growing from one root (father and son or married couple).
一株の根元から二本の幹が出ている樹形のこと。
幹の太く高い方を主幹、細く短い方を副幹と呼び、両者の調和を維持することが重要です。
幹の分かれめが、根もとから少し上に位置するものは、途中双幹と呼ぱれる。

Oya ko sou kan:

主幹と副幹の差が、極端なものを親子双幹という。
